I did take precautions. I had two 6’5 doormen sat with me when I asked him for his keys to my nightclub, Liquid.

In those days it was a lot easier to get rid of someone for being a racist. 

I had a staff of about 20 at Liquid; at my first club, Love To Be, over 100. Then, some 20 years ago, I had absolutely no idea how to engage a team. I just employed ‘em on personality, put ‘em behind the bar, on the Technics SL1200 turntables or the front door. We bonded at the end of the night for our usual lock-in with friends and staff. 

There is no doubt about it, I was being ripped off. In fact, I once went to a party at my assistant manager’s house and his living room was filled with a certain kind of champagne you could only get at my club. Since then I’ve slowly got better, and have helped 100s of dental care professionals all over the world ENGAGE with their people to boost performance, productivity, emotional connection to colleagues and patients alike. 

NET PROFIT TRIPLE BY PEOPLE FOCUS…

As a result, I have seen net profit triple just by focussing on their people. Many members are having their best months ever; it’s a combination of internal and external marketing and looking after their inhouse customers, their people. The words employees, and staff are banned. Team is what you will find working in one of the most successful hotel chains.

Over one hundred and fifty dentists around the UK select Blackburn’s very own Khalid Master, one of the two Clinical Directors of ‘Bank View Smile Studios’ for the prestigious award.

The award is presented annually at a National Dental Conference to a dental practice that can demonstrate their commitment to the ‘Provision of Exceptional Patient Services.’

The winner was announced on January 20th at the Hilton, Deansgate, Manchester.

Khalid did an inspiring and engaging presentation in front of some of the best dentists and most successful practices in the UK. The focus of his interactive presentation was to highlight the novel ways in which they communicate with their new and existing patients through a variety of media; both online and offline. He went on to highlight some of the outstanding results they have managed to achieve with a variety of patients and the positive impact the treatments have had in improving their quality of life.

Khalid was awarded a large ‘Best of the Best’ trophy and won a Customer Service weekend retreat in Spain with top customer service guru Tony Gedge. On receiving the highly sought after accolade, Khalid said “To be in the company of, and to share a stage with such distinguished dentists is an honour in itself and then to be voted as the winner by my esteemed peers was truly overwhelming. We are really passionate and constantly innovative with our committed approach to service provision. We focus all our energy on making our patient’s journey pain free, stress free and truly memorable, which is why so many of our patients ‘actually look forward’ to visiting us and regularly refer and entrust the care of their nearest and dearest. ”

In presenting the award Tony said, “I have never experienced such extreme patient customer service in all my thirteen years of coaching dentists. The Bank View Smile Studios customer service initiatives are truly inspiring and it was a privilege for Khalid to share his good practice with us all. It was remarkable for the audience to witness the uniquely fun and exciting approach they have in providing exceptional patient experiences.”

Runners up at the awards were Dentistry on the Square from Glasgow who gained huge media exposure in the press and on the radio.

“Hi, I’m Jon Swarbrigg of Farsley Dental Practice and Dental Excellence at Harewood. Just enjoyed the MPOD annual conference, here in Manchester. For me it’s three of the most important days of the year. We meet on the Thursday, because I’m part of the Royal Ruby Red group and have been for the last five or six years. The Royal Ruby Red group for me, is one of the most important groups for the meet up because it makes me accountable for the 90 day goals. It gives me the chance to sit with some very privileged company really, with some great practice owners and business owners and totally facilitate a great day.

Like I say, you set your 90 day goals and then you’re accountable, and that’s what drives results. The MPOD conference then is a chance for me to bring all that team along for them to benefit and, I’m going to say absorb, the knowledge that’s in the room. Provides a real focal point for our calendar year and not only for us to reflect on what we have done over the last 12 months, but also what we’re going to do as a team moving forward in the coming 12 months. It gives us great energy at the time of year when sometimes people have just finished post-Christmas, immediately, we’re into January and we go back and are charged. Everybody’s fueled up and ready to go.

So there’s huge energy amongst the team already, just from this morning’s session. It’s difficult to sort them in terms of value, it’s almost priceless to me. It’s really, really difficult to put something on it. Personal development as well as business growth, our businesses continue to grow. We’ve now got 12 dentists, three hygienists, 25 staff working. So success, if it was just purely financial figures, yep, the practice continues to grow.

We had a record growth year last year. We were up 23% on the bottom line. Our EBITDA has continued to grow, it’s up another six percent from last year. Personally, just watching the people who have come now as the team, to the last, I think it’s four or five Treasure Map’s that we’ve brought the whole team to. Just to watch them personally develop as well, it’s phenomenal. I think you can measure success in a number of different ways, not just financially. So, being now, part of an empowered team that leads the decisions in the practice without me having to be there, is probably the biggest success I would say over the last five or six years that we’ve gone to Treasure Map.

Value on it, it’s pretty much priceless.”
