I first met Stuart Bowker in a Leeds’ courtroom. He was Area Director for 36 pubs within the fledgling group JD Wetherspoon. I was applying for licences for my nightclubs and he too for JD’s pub chain.

Stuart was instrumental in creating the “JD Wetherspoon’s Way” a blue print of how they do things. It included its people, standards and systems. After that Stuart head-hunted by Café Nero and then onto Pizza Hut.  Today Stuart is Regional Director for 14 Grosvenor Casinos.

Now get this and confidential please. Stuart manages “Double Digit Million Pounds a Week!”  And this is the incredible bit, he manages, motivates, measures over 1,000 people. He continually smashes his targets from HQ and this is not done by random luck. It’s based ON RESULTS.

capture1For instance, imagine a TCO trying in vain to convert a prospect. No training. No targets. No accountability.

First then, it’s about identifying the RESULTS your prospect wants, identifying the RESULTS you want… and getting the business. And it’s about performance too. Here are at least four questions you can start asking today…

(1) Did she do the consult well? (2a, b, c, d, e, f) What about her preparation, delivery, props, demonstrations and visuals and closing technique? (3) Top notch? (4a, b, c, d, e, f,) What would she do differently next time, how can she grow, what has she learned, what didn’t go well, what needs more work and spit and polish to get MORE RESULTS?

TIP: You might even produce a “self-feedback sheet” for prospect consults. For example she marks herself on preparation, level of confidence, arrival on time, personal presentation, looking the part, uncovering your prospect’s FEARS, FRUSTRATIONS, DESIRES @ WORK, @ HOME, @ PLAY. Was rapport built, connection made, trust built through local community work, credibility displayed, and closure? How well did she present solutions, what’s the next agreed upon steps, and so forth.

You might be surprised how this level of self-analysis will help you, and her identify those things you want to do better. The secret is about identifying the RESULTS your prospect wants, and identifying the RESULTS you want.

culture-of-resultsSURVIVAL STRATEGY # 2. CULTURE OF RESULTS. In 2009, sailor Laura Dekker announced her plan to become the youngest person (14 years old) to circumnavigate the globe single-handed. A Dutch court stepped in, due to the objections of the local authorities, and prevented Dekker from departing while under shared custody of both her parents.

Anyway, Dekker successfully completed her solo circumnavigation in an 11.5-metre (38 ft) two-masted ketch, arriving in Simpson Bay, Sint Maarten, on 21 January 2012, age 16. She was focused on the “result” and nothing else.

Believe me, in the past year, I’ve witnessed dental practices slowing, slacking, sloppy by allowing their people run their tooth asylum. And worse… listening to peers advice who want to keep them as stagnant as they are.

“DELEGATE TO ELEVATE”

Now don’t get me wrong, ‘delegating to elevate your unique ability’ is crucial to creating a far bigger future than your past. But your people must bring you RESULTS! Here’s a clue…

I first heard the phrase RESULTS RULE many moons ago, and I have no idea who first coined it. But not mine, although I have lived by the ‘results rule’ since I first started out as an entrepreneur twenty-nine years ago. But as a leader you must get buy in from your people to deliver, measure, and most important of all—-present results. It’s like taking BPE 4 to BPE 2. You must deliver the transformation. Here’s what else…

Without a culture of results, you are rewinding, walking backwards like a team of living dead zombies. As example, when I walk into a practice, I can usually smell the stench of that green mouldy pond with little life beneath its surface. It doesn’t take long before a renewed energy is found, maintained and built upon. Results rule and nothing else.

slow-economy-2My favourite economist, Harry Dent Junior, and author of the Demographic Cliff is predicting a US recession.

According to Joe LaVorgna of Deutsche Bank, however, in addition to slowing jobs growth and weakening economic data, there is a huge reason to worry about a recession: debt. “The corporate sector has taken on a substantial amount of debt in the current business cycle,” LaVorgna wrote in a note to clients. “Non-financial corporate debt has increased by $2 trillion from its trough in Q4 2010.”

And when RECESSION HITS, it’s not long before the tornado violently blows across the pond and lifts business, consumers and dental practices off their feet. The ones taking precaution will win, while others go bankrupt.
